Influenza

Common influenza causes fever, sore throat, cough, chills, headache, and muscle aches. Each year in the U.S., more than 114,000 people are hospitalized and about 36,000 die because of influenza related illnesses.

The best time to get your flu shot is in October or November, before the height of the annual flu season; however, even as late as January, vaccination can help protect against the flu.

Flu vaccination is especially important for adults age 50 or more, and adults with health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, lung disease, and other chronic illnesses. However, regardless of age, a yearly flu shot is recommended for almost everyone.
